For our second edition, Brilliant Corners are pleased to present Jeff Mangum live in concert at the historic Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago on Monday, February 6th and Tuesday, February 7th. As the founder and driving force behind Neutral Milk Hotel and one of the cofounders of Athens, GA’s Elephant 6 Collective, Mangum is one of America’s most enigmatic and beloved songwriters. Performing in Chicago for the first time since 1998 and following his reemergence at this year’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Asbury Park, this show may offer Chicago audiences a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness Mangum perform live. Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, November 11th.

The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus has toured the world since 1994, reminding audiences of all ages that the immediacy, intimacy and viscerality of live entertainment can never be experienced in front of a media screen.  The roots of Bindlestiff’s style extend deep into NYC’s underground community of drag queens, pranksters, political activists and arts outsiders, while embodying a deep understanding and appreciation of the history of American popular entertainment and the illegitimate theater traditions of vaudeville, music hall, burlesque and sideshow. In addition to bringing the Cirkus show to festivals and theaters all over the world, other Bindlestiff activities include The Cavalcade of Youth, a professional showcase for emerging circus and variety artists under the age of 21; running Cirkus Skills afterschool programs in NYC and the Hudson Valley; producing the New York City Unicycle Festival, and with Modern Myth Cinema, documenting the sawdust and glitter of Cirkus Life in “The Bindlestiffs”.www.bindlestiff.org   www.TheBindlestiffs.com

CHIRP Radio
The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) is dedicated to providing Chicago residents with a community radio station focused on the representation of local people, events, and issues alongside a wide array of local and independent music. CHIRP Radio is a non-profit, volunteer-run, music-, arts-, and culture-focused radio station transmitting live from our studios in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood from 6AM-3AM seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Coat Angels
Coat Angels is a 501 c 3, not-for-profit organization that buys coats for underprivileged children in Chicago who will otherwise go cold this winter. Every year, Coat Angels has far more requests than they can fill, so every donation is meaningful, appreciated and makes a huge and immediate difference in the life of a child. The children they help wear sweatshirts on their two block, four block or even mile walk to school on the most bitter Chicago days. The kids they help are underdressed as they wait for the bus to go to the grocery store, the laundromat, the doctor. They are most at risk to live in unheated or under-heated homes. A portion of any proceeds from themed event will help Coat Angels with their cause.

826CHI 
826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.Their services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this in mind, 826CHI provides drop-in tutoring, after-school workshops, field trips, in-school tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.

Girls Rock! Chicago
Girls Rock! Chicago is a 501(c)(3) non-for profit organization dedicated to fostering girls’ creative expression, positive self-esteem and community awareness through rock music. Through their music education programs for girls ages 8-16, they are committed to educating girls about the musical, technical, and creative aspects involved in musicianship. As an organization Girls Rock! Chicago believes that rock music can be a crucial tool in allowing young women to respond to preconceived notions of what they can do and what they can become.

Harold Arts
Harold Arts is a 501c3 organization dedicated to cultivating creative opportunities for emerging and career artists.Each summer, Harold hosts residency programs geared towards interdisciplinary exploration around conceptual structure provided by the staff and a small army of visiting artists.  Our 2011 programs are designed for artists, musicians, and thinkers interested in working outside the studio, emphasizing site-specific production and artistic inquiry on and off the tree farm.

In addition to our annual residency program, Harold Arts produces exhibitions, concerts, screenings, and special events, in Chicago and elsewhere.  We welcome collaborations with like-minded organizations through exchange and cooperative endeavors.

threewalls
threewalls is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to increasing Chicago’s cultural capital by cultivating contemporary art practice and discourse. Through a range of exhibition and public programs, including symposiums, lectures, performances and publications, threewalls creates a locus of exchange between local, national and international contemporary art communities.

threewalls was founded in 2003 to provide greater support and visibility for the visual arts community in Chicago. The founders wanted to encourage a greater awareness of Chicago’s art scene by inviting emerging professional artists to Chicago to share in the city’s rich histories, resources and creative communities. In an effort to provide meaningful support to emerging artists, curators and writers, threewalls has worked to form a sustainable organization that provides exhibition space, residency opportunities and artist fees to both visiting artists through the residency fellowship and to regional artists through the SOLO program.

Today, threewalls operates a year-round self-directed research residency; commissions a major project by a visiting artist working in, collaborating and otherwise interacting with the region; supports four SOLO exhibitions of work by local and regional artists; programs a SALON series  and symposium program to generate open dialogue, presentation of new ideas and the publication of new writing; as well as partnering with other organizations on publication and education, in an effort to broaden and contribute to the contemporary visual arts.

The Object Design League (ODL) promotes experimental and independent object design through public exhibitions and events. A selection of their handmade balloons will be floating in the eaves of a cafe tent, but look for their helium cart where you can buy a unique balloon of your own. The Balloon Factory project premiered in July at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

ODL will be launching an online store this fall, stocking everyday goods by emerging and anonymous designers.
